Plans are progressing...slowly but surely.
After many trips to Townsend and much weighing of pros and cons, we finally made the decision to have the ceremony and reception at Country Manor Acres which is right on Boat Gunnel Road. (By now we should know that Melissa is Always Right - Appalachian Party Barn it is!) If the weather's nice people should pretty much be able to walk from their cabins to the wedding. And really, if we're not getting married in the Smokies, we should definitely get married in or near a barn, don't you think?
Sounds like cabin reservations are coming along. The Paulus-Atkins clan will be at the Smoky Mountain Getaway cabins, lots of folks are staying across the road at the Pioneer Cabins and Guest Farm, the IU/IST crowd is staying at Country Manor Acres, and we just booked another group cabin at the Top of Townsend where I'll spend the night before the wedding with All the Single Ladies.
Top of Townsend still has cabins available, but it sounds like Mountain Mist* and Pioneer Cabins are booked. Haven't heard whether anyone's booked cabins at Trillium Springs.
*Just heard from Mountain Mist that the Farmhouse is still open and sleeps 8.
Weekend plans are still evolving, but right now we're thinking of having a Friday night dinner at the cabins with our families, and then folks are welcome to stop by after to say hi and let us know you made it to town. We'll welcome folks for Saturday morning coffee and visiting, or people can go hiking or exploring Townsend. The outdoor wedding will take place mid-late afternoon on Saturday, followed by good food and music in the party barn. There's even a bonfire pit.
We'll send more specific information as we figure it all out...just happy to have one decision behind us!
And for the occasion, I'm wearing my kilt...You get to choose the kilt - Young or McLean?
ReplyDeleteYou will so fit in with the Scots-Irish heritage of the Appalachian region! Wait, I think I just found a wedding theme...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hang on bachelorette fun night...is that just for single ladies or just the ladies??
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Anika, stick with me - I plan to just crash whatever is happening that night!
Yes - the bachelorette fun night will be open to all the ladies...more on that later... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to Party Barn.
ReplyDeleteWho's planning to stay Sunday night to make a full holiday weekend of it? We had to book the Pioneer cabins for the whole weekend, so we're looking for Sunday activities, too. I'm probably going to take full advantage of any hammock/porch-swing opportunities, but John will appreciate a hike. We might bring bicycles.
Yes - David and I were just talking about that. We're most likely going to be there until Monday morning, too, and would love to hang out with anyone who is staying that long.
ReplyDeleteNo pets allowed? ...and Sam was looking very forward to celebrating this weekend with you. Don't worry I'll break it to him easy that you've already got a ring bearer. ;)
